Jeff Grader creates illustrations that capture fleeting moments from larger stories. A native of the woods of Western Massachusetts, he draws inspiration from the wonder, mystery, and quiet humor found in both nature and imagination. Working with traditional drawing, expressive brushwork, and digital color, he explores the space where whimsy, wonder, and the unexpected meet. His images invite viewers to pause, look closer, and imagine what happened just before—or what might happen next.
Whether depicting anthropomorphic animals, mysterious creatures, or ordinary characters in extraordinary situations, Jeff's work balances the fantastical with the familiar. Humor, tenderness, curiosity, and a touch of the strange run throughout his illustrations, creating visual fables that resonate with both children and adults.
Jeff studied at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. His picture book Change: A Story for All Ages received the Platinum Award for book illustration from the Creativity International Awards in 2010. His work is geared toward children's books, editorial illustration, and narrative-driven projects that celebrate storytelling, emotional connection, and the magic found in embracing the weird.
